Extinction Procession

Dorcas was commissioned by Emily Eavis to make an Extinction Procession for the opening of Glastonbury Festival 2019 in support of Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion. 2 (2) resized

 

“These beasts are made from old clothes and domestic fabrics. I borrowed the visual language of folk rituals and ‘ancient gods’; things that humans would have turned to in the past when facing an existential threat. I think of them as contemporary totems of extinction, quietly foreshadowing a homegrown catastrophe.”

After the procession they were installed either side of the park stage for the duration of the festival.
