Dorcas was commissioned by Emily Eavis to make an Extinction Procession for the opening of Glastonbury Festival 2019 in support of Greenpeace and Extinction Rebellion.
“These beasts are made from old clothes and domestic fabrics. I borrowed the visual language of folk rituals and ‘ancient gods’; things that humans would have turned to in the past when facing an existential threat. I think of them as contemporary totems of extinction, quietly foreshadowing a homegrown catastrophe.”
After the procession they were installed either side of the park stage for the duration of the festival.
